LYNGEN ALPS & TROMSØ, NORWAYEUROPEFEB 2025Hidden Lines in Norway
[ OVERVIEW ]Far above the Arctic Circle, where the mountains rise straight out of the fjords, there are lines that never make it to the guidebooks. Hidden Lines in Norway is an 8-day ski touring journey through the wild peaks around Tromsø and the Lyngen region, led by certified Mountain Guides.
We don't publish our objectives. Each morning the route is chosen based on snow stability, weather and the group's energy, so no two weeks are the same.
Designed for confident skiers. This is not a course: it's for people who already ski well off-piste and enjoy long days in the mountains.

Tour Itinerary
■
-
Meeting in Tromsø. Participants arrive in Tromsø (TOS) from wherever they live, and the group meets at the airport. Our guide welcomes everyone and we transfer north to the Lyngen region, about 2–2.5 hours by road, possibly with a short fjord ferry crossing. After check-in we go through the equipment together, and over the welcome dinner the guide introduces the week, the area and the mountain safety rules.
-
A warm-up tour close to the base to find the rhythm of the group. We start with a transceiver, shovel and probe drill, then skin up on moderate terrain while the guide reads the local snowpack and explains how decisions will be made all week. A shorter day by design, with a first descent to test snow, skis and legs, and time in the evening for a briefing on the days ahead.
-
Our two core days of exploration. After breakfast and the daily snow and weather briefing, we leave for remote valleys and faces that few people ski, with 5–7 hours of touring and a packed lunch on the mountain. Depending on stability we choose between wide powder slopes and glades, or steeper couloirs and more committing lines. If the snow calls for caution we switch to sheltered terrain, so the day is never wasted. Back at the base in the late afternoon, with time to rest before dinner and the next day's planning.
-
The tour of the day is chosen for the best snow of the moment, ideally with a long descent toward the sea. In the evening the group gathers for a traditional Norwegian barbecue, cooked over an open fire with local products such as [reindeer sausages, fresh fish and Norwegian side dishes — confirm menu]. It's the most convivial night of the trip, and on a clear sky, a good chance to look up for the aurora.
-
By now the guide knows the group and the group knows the terrain. We use the best conditions of the week for the most rewarding objectives, with longer ascents or steeper lines for those who feel strong, and alternatives for a more relaxed pace when needed. On the last evening we share a farewell dinner, look back at the week's descents and keep an eye on the northern sky.
-
After a relaxed breakfast we pack and transfer to Tromsø airport (TOS), about 2–2.5 hours away, for the return flight home.* We recommend booking flights departing after [13:00] so the transfer is comfortable and there is no rush.
Itineraries are chosen daily based on snow, avalanche danger and weather. Locations are intentionally not published.
* Meeting point and end of the trip: Tromsø airport (TOS). On request we can arrange flights from your home airport, for both outbound and return.

Matteo Upinot
My connection with nature dates back to my childhood. Growing up among the peaks of the Alps, I have always considered the mountains not simply a physical place, but a true spiritual home.
From a young age, I developed a passion for exploring alpine peaks and trails, turning the mountains from a simple passion into a way of life. Ever since, every free moment has been devoted to returning to the peaks that I consider my refuge.
The decision to turn my passion into a profession came naturally over the years. Today, as a Mountain Guide, I seek to embrace the mountains in every possible way. I consider myself a lifelong explorer, constantly searching for new routes, breathtaking landscapes, and challenges that push me to my limits. The mountains are my school and my office, and my greatest joy is sharing with others the excitement of reaching summits and overcoming obstacles, while conveying the respect and love I have for these extraordinary places.
